Boots Beauty Haul

Okay... so my obsession with boots is a little strange, I think it first started when I got my advantage card and ever since then I've gone in there to buy tons of products. So since I got paid today it seemed only right that I took a trip in there to get some goodies.

Starting off with the essentials, I got some of my beloved soothing 2 in 1 eye make up remover for £3.25 which I completely love! Garnier had a buy one get one free offer on (yippeee) so I picked up some of their soothing vitamin enriched toner because I'm running out of my Nivea one, Usually this toner is £2.99.

I have tried the straight and smooth version of these Charles Worthington products and it made my hair feel sooo good. My hair is in need of some TLC at the moment so I picked up the Strength & Repair Salon Home hoping that it will work wonders on my locks. Usually these hair care products are £5.99 but there was an offer on (another reason why I love boots) so I grabbed these for £3.99 each.

So this little box found its way into my basket ... opps. I recently got a sample of this Benefit Hello Flawless Oxgen Wow foundation and was really impressed with the staying power and dewy look of this foundation. I used the sample yesterday and had it on for around 13/14 hours and did not touch up my make up once through out the day. Enough said. I had to go out and buy this foundation! I got the shade Ivory and it is a little pricey at £25.50 but you only need the smallest amount for a full face.

I then picked up some of this Cutex Nail Polish Remover for £2.20, I always make sure I use this brand as it is literally the most effective nail polish to remove any nail varnish or shellac/gel nails. It also has a whitening formula in it and really helped my nails when they were completely stained after I forgot a base coat.

I needed a new tanning mitt and I normally use the St Tropez bronzing mouse so I decided to get the St Tropez prep & maintain mitt for £4.49. It's a bit pricier than my usual one but I wanted to see whether this proved to be any better.

That completes my Boots beauty haul for today. Do you enjoy using any of these products I've mentioned?

CLARINS Pure Melt Cleansing Gel with Marula Oil

So I got given a tiny sample of this cleanser when I was purchasing a present at the Clarins counter the other day and since I had ran out of my favourite cleanser (Pai Camellia and Rose) I decided I would see how this one compares! I tried it for a couple of days and absolutely fell in love with it, so I purchased the full size bottle off of www.escentuals.com for the special offer of £15.60.

I'm not gonna lie at first I was really dubious of this product because of my combination skin, I thought this would be far too oily for my face. After trying this for a couple of days, I realised this was actually perfect for my skin, it's just moisturising enough to deal with my dry skin and it soaks up any oil on my face without leaving it too dry. It honestly is the perfect combination.

Clarins describes this cleanser as a triple texture gel that transforms into an oil that melts away every last trace of oil and impurities - including the heaviest make up. There is no doubt about this, that is a spot on description of this luxury gel! I have taken some pictures of how the gel transforms into the three textures.

From the pictures you can see that when first applied to the skin it comes out of the tube like a gel, you then start massaging the product in and it turns into an oil. The oil literally feels amazing on the skin, almost identical to when you get a facial (except this is a lot cheaper). You then apply a tiny bit of water to your hands and continue to massage the product in and the consistency changes into a pearly milk, which you then wash off completely. I now use this cleanser every single morning and evening in my skincare routine and can honestly say this will be a staple for me from now on. I wouldn't say I completely prefer it compared to my Pai cleanser, however they are completely different and I think I will alternate between using both of them.

  • Feels like a luxury cleanser because of the triple texture
  • It removes EVERY trace of make up
  • Only a small amount of product is used, so will last for ages
  • Quick and simple to use
  • Good packaging - doesn't get messy and you can see how much product you have left
  • Moisturising for the skin, but isn't too oily
  • Not a strong scent, very natural
  • Quite pricey compared to some high street cleansers
  • Not an effective eye make up remover as it does sting a little

I think if you haven't tried this cleanser you should definitely give it a go, remember Clarins are always happy to give you a sample to try before you buy!

My Current Skincare Routine and Why I'm a Cleansing Addict

An insight into my skin type: I have serious combination skin, often on my face I get very oily around the t-zone but then I also have dry patches around the sides of my nose and on my cheeks (so not ideal!). I do get the odd spot from time to time and I do have a few pores around my nose area. My skincare routine is made up of products that work for my combination skin - I'm a total skincare addict and love all potions and lotions that work!

Cleanser - So I have recently ran out of my FAVOURITE cleanser of 2013 which would explain why it isn't in the photo above and that is the Pai Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. It is seriously the most luxurious cleanser I have ever tried, it comes with a hot cloth and it is a thick cream you put on to your face which has the most amazing herbal scent. It breaks down EVERY inch of make up on my face and then the hot cloth wipes the excess make up away. I purchased mine off of www.beautybay.com for £25 (100ml) and it lasted me about five months using it every evening... I will definitely be repurchasing this!

At the moment I am using the Sophyto Purifying Silken Cleanser which I also purchased from beautybay at the same time for £13.00 (100ml). I mainly switched between using the Pai cleanser in the evening and this in the morning as it isn't as effective at taking my make up off, Or I would use this to double cleanse my face in the evening when I was wearing a fuller face of make up. I would say this cleanser does keep my face clean and prevents spots, however after I finish this tube I think I will try something different. This cleanser hasn't particularly stood out for me.

Cleansing has been quite a discovery for me in 2013... I always would take my make up off with a make up wipe or a cleansing water, but using a cream/liquid cleanser and properly working it in to my skin made me realise that using just a wipe wasn't enough to get every last scrape of my make up off my face. Cleansing and double cleansing my face has improved my skin SOOOO much and has helped a lot with blemishes and pores. I've realised how important it is to take off every single bit of make up before you go to sleep, especially if you are layering on creams afterwards as it gives you a completely clean base to work with.

Eye Make Up Remover - Before cleansing I like to take my eye make up off with a separate remover. The best eye make up remover I've tried is the Garnier Simply Essentials 2 in 1 Make Up Remover because it is so gentle on the eyes and is really effective. I bought mine from Boots for £3.25 (200ml) and probably went through about four bottles in 2013. It is extremely similar to Lancome Bi-facial Eye Make up Remover that everyone raves about which you can also purchase from Boots for £21.00 (125ml), apart from there is a big difference in the price. I actually prefer the Garnier version purely because I think it is a lot less greasy than the Lancome product.

On the last few drops of the Lancome remover

Toner - I wouldn't say I have tons to say about the toners that I use, I haven't found a toner which I would continue to repurchasing anyway, I just have two toners that I alternate between, and that's that! Don't get me wrong I don't dislike these toners, I just don't think they do anything more for my skin than make sure all the dirt is removed from my face. The main toner that I use is the Nivea Pure & Natural Toner which I got from boots for £1.99 (200ml), I like how this toner has 95% natural ingredients (even if it does smell slightly plant like haha) and the fact that it is so cheap and long lasting. The next toner that I use every other evening on my face is the Alpha H Liquid Gold which I got when I went on some extreme shop on beauty bay for £31.50 (100ml). A lot of people have said this liquid has changed their skin massively for the better but it just doesn't seem to make that much of a difference to mine, however I will continue to use it and see whether I do see any change.

Moisturiser - The ultimate moisturiser for my combination skin has to be the Clinque Moisture Surge Intense as it really does help with the dry patches on my face but also keeps the oilier sections moisturised and not overly greasy. It is quite a thick cream but sinks in and dries off very quickly and the feel is very soothing and refreshing when I apply it. I bought this from Boots when a sale was on and got this in a gift set with the clinque eye cream and a smaller version of this moisturiser for £34.00 (50ml) which is literally just £2 more than the moisturiser usually is - so a good deal!

Eye Cream - I have two eye creams that I use which I think are the perfect combo. I have the Clinque All About Eyes cream which I receieved in the gift set with my Clinque moisturiser. I use this cream in the morning as it is very lightweight and soaks into my skin quickly. My second eye cream is the Kiehl's Creamy Treatment which I use in the evening as it is a thicker cream which needs a longer period of time to set into my under eye area and work its magic. I purchase this particular creamy avocado treatment from a Kiehl's store for £33.00. I do think this is an expensive product but I'm pretty certain this will last for ages and be totally worth it.

A picture of the creams different textures and looks - on the left is the Kiehl's treatment and right is Clinques

Lip Cream - Right before I go to bed I like to apply a little bit of the Nivea Lip Butter in either caramel or raspberry. I really think these lip butters are so creamy and nourishing for your lips and I wake up with mine feeling so silky smooth! Also, lets not forget the scent of these.. they are so so nice they smell good enough to eat! I purchased mine from Superdrug for £2.25 which I think is a complete steal as these will last for months & months.

So that is my skincare routine at the moment! What is your skincare regime?

Wednesday, 8 January 2014

So before I talk you through my hair care I thought I would give you a bit of information on what my hair is like: I have thick, really long brown hair and it is in quite good condition (due to one product in particular which I will talk to you about). I do use a lot of heat on my hair so do get spilt ends but this doesn't tend to bother me too much as I try and get my hair cut frequently. So let's get down to it!

So first things first... shampoo & conditioner... I try and alternate between different types of shampoos and conditioners so I have two main sets that I am using at the moment. The first one is the Goldwell set and I use the rich repair type which I really enjoy using. I bought these when my hair was in need of something more nourishing than I had been using and I do think this has improved my hair use after use. The shampoo lathers up really well which I like so you don't need a lot of product and the conditioner is super smooth so my hair instantly feels repaired as soon as I apply it.

Bought mine off of Ebay as a set for £12

The next set I use is the kms silk sheen shampoo and conditioner, I purchased these from my hairdressers in the largest bottles they do as they had a crazy good offer on, so it really would have been rude not to! I wouldn't say these are the most conditioning products so if your hair is in need of a bit of TLC I would steer clear. However, these really do make your hair SHINE soooo much, I had people commenting on how healthy my hair was looking, even though it didn't feel as soft as usual. So I am still torn with this product.. I love how my hair looks when I use it, but don't particularly like how it feels. Oh & both of these sets have the most amazing scents, they really are so nice and the staying power is so good, a day later I will still be able to smell them in my hair, which I LOVE.

Bought mine as a set for £25

Although these are my current choice of shampoos and conditioners I wouldn't say I would be running out going to buy them again, I'm happy with trying new products on my hair and don't think these work 'miracles'. But then again, I won't be wasting these either, I will be using these right to the bottom of the bottles as they weren't cheap!

One thing in particular I enjoy using on my hair is a deep Conditioner and my current choice to use would be the Vichy nourishing one. I apply this after shampooing and spread it all over my hair, it's a thick cream and it really does make my hair feel shiny & healthy. I was quite hesitant about trying a Vichy product for hair as I have only heard about their face products but actually I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoy using this once a week or so.

Bought from www.escentual.com for £6.60

So here comes the most amazing product which I think I will continue to use FOREVER  and I really do adore this product, It is the ...It's a 10 Miracle leave in product. I will try and keep this short and sweet because I really could go on and on about this treatment. Basically, it is a cream spray which you spray onto your hair after washing and it claims to do 10 things instantly to your hair.
Bought from Ebay for £15.99

1. Repairs dry damaged hair
2. Adds shine
3. Smoothes and controls frizz
4. Seas and protects hair color
5. Detangles
6. Prevents split ends
7. Stops hair breakage
8. Creates silkiness
9. Enhances natural body
10. Flat iron spray and thermal protector

Honestly all I can say is if you haven't already tired this, try it! It is life changing.

Bought from Boots for £4.99

So this brings me to my final product... It has to be dry shampoo and I use the batiste cherry version which I love the smell of! It's an every girls must have as far as I'm concerned for days when you simply can't be bothered to wash your hair and want it clean instantly or days when you just don't have enough time! I love this dry shampoo because of the cheap price tag and the fact that it is lightweight and doesn't weigh down my hair.

I'm so open to trying new products so please recommend me some products that work for you. Thanks for reading!

Urban Decay All Nighter Make up Setting Spray

So I'm pretty certain nearly everyone must of heard of this setting spray, as far as I'm concerned it is an essential for anyone with combination/oily skin as it works wonders!

It is basically a hairspray for your face, it holds everything in place for a longer period of time and keeps everything set so it won't move. I can vouch that this really DOES work.

I use this spray after I have completed my entire make up look and then spray four sprays in different sections of my face making sure everywhere is covered. I then leave it to dry for around 30 seconds and let it work its magic for the next 12 hours or so. It says it will work for up to 16 hours but I don't ever think I've worn my make up for that long.

For me, this spray is perfect for a night out when I don't want to take any make up out with me, or fuss over touching up in a bathroom mirror. My make up will stay in place all night and it means I don't need to worry about it streaking or sliding off while being out and about. It is also perfect for me in the summer time when I do long shifts at work, as I don't have to layer on more and more powder and can just spray some of this on my face for a refreshing, cooling feeling which sets my make up in place.

I bought my setting spray for £19.50 from Debenhams and have had it for around a year now, using it nearly every day so for me it's been worth every penny. I TAKE THIS EVERYWHERE and have especially loved using it on holiday this year as it has such long lasting power even in boiling hot countries. Do you have a Urban Decay setting spray and what are your thoughts? Leave your comments down below!

Monday, 6 January 2014

First of all, let me start with saying Happy New Year! And since it is 2014 I've decided to show you my favourite beauty items that I have used religiously throughout 2013. I will include items I use day to day for my everyday make up look... so here goes...

Face Powder Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder I have used this powder for quite a few years and it is a brilliant pressed powder for keeping shine at bay for the whole day. It lasts for absolutely ages and I haven't found another powder with staying power like it, especially for the cheap price tag of £3.99. I use the shade warm beige 006, but it pretty much comes out translucent anyway, which I like as it means you can layer it on later in the day and it doesn't look thick or cakey. Will always be a staple in my make up bag.

Foundation Max factor All Day Flawless 3 in 1 foundation I have been using this foundation for around 8 months so the most part of 2013 and I love it! It is a three in one so a primer, concealer and foundation and it stays on my face ALL DAY. It doesn't make it greasy at all and it gives good coverage which is build able. I use the shade beige 55 and mix it with the darker shade golden 75 when I have a slight tan, this makes the perfect colour for me all year round.

Concealer True Match This has been more of a recent purchase but it is my favourite concealer that I have tried over the past year or so (and I have tried A LOT), it is in the shade 4 beige and it highlights my under eye area perfectly and covers any blemishes that I have. It is very creamy, blends so easily but doesn't crease in any lines I have. Perfect concealer!

Brushes Sigma Flat Kabuki F80/ Precision Round P82 These are my favourite brushes of 2013.. I was using the real technique ones for months but recently ordered these and prefer them. I use the F80 brush to apply my Max Factor foundation and I love how soft the brush is and how easy it is to blend the foundation, making sure it looks flawless on the skin. I then use the P82 brush to apply and dab concealer under my eyes and disguise blemishes.

Blush #1 Givenchy Blush 23 I have been using this blush for SOOOOO long, I actually love this blusher, and I will continue to use this forever! You can use it as a blush on your cheekbones or if you use the bottom two colours alone it goes on nicely as a bronzer. It has a brush in a separate compartment beneath the blush and a mirror so it is the perfect small size to pop in your handbag when you are out and about to touch up. It has amazing staying power and does not budge on the skin no matter what. It is pricey but I think it's worth it as one of these will last for ages and ages.

Blush #2 YSL Blush Radiance 9 This is a more recent purchase and so far I love it, it's the perfect pink shade in my opinion and just like the Givenchy blush has the perfect staying power. This is perfect for all year round and I think this would suit all skin shades. The big mirror is also really good for make up touch ups and I really like the brush that is included as it is the perfect size to get the product just on your cheekbones.

Bronzer Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil This has been the most gorgeous bronzer of 2013 for my skin tone, I bought this in the shade light to medium and it is the perfect matte shade. A lot of the other bronzers I have tried have either been too shimmery for my liking or just far too dark and streaky, so I find this one is just spot on. Another massive positive is that this smells exactly like a bar of chocolate.. so as far as I'm concerned an instant winner.

Mascara Maybelline The Falsies I really love applying this mascara, I think the shape of the brush is perfect for spreading out my eyelashes and making them look as long and thick as possible. Another thing which I find is different from other mascaras I have tried, is that there is never any fall out with this particular product.

Eyeliner Stila Stay All Day Waterproof This does exactly what it says on the packaging... it stays ALL day. It has such a fine felt tip as well so you can draw really precise lines as thin as you want. A perfect staple make up item for anyone that wants a perfect cat eye flick!

Brow Powder Benefit Brown zings Medium I don't think I will find another brow powder that matches my eyebrows so perfectly and is so simple to use. Literally you take the tiniest bit of powder on the brush included and fill in your eyebrows and that is it... it's that simple! I don't tend to use the brow wax but I guess someone with a thicker eyebrow might enjoy using this as it sets your eyebrow in place making sure it doesn't budge throughout the day.

Lip Balm Dior Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm Creme De Rose I've heard loads of people talking about this lip balm so I thought I would splurge and see what the fuss was about. This is an amazing balm ... it smells and tastes of roses and isn't too sticky or greasy. It stays on the lips for a long time and it is ideal for a base/primer under a lipstick. I wouldn't say it 'plumps' your lip but it does the job by moisturising my lips which is exactly what I need, especially in the winter.

Lip Stick YSL Rouge Volupte Shine I HAD to pick this creamy peach lipstick in the shade 15, it is my favourtie lip stick I've ever had and it's going to take something pretty special to replace this.

Make up bag - Ted Baker

So that is it! That is my make up essentials I have used throughout 2013...Do you agree with me on any of my favourite products? Let me know by commenting below. Thank you for reading!

The POREfessional Agent Zero Shine

Shine-vanishing PRO powder

I am the BIGGEST fan of benefits POREfessional primer so when I heard there was going to be a POREfessional powder out, you can imagine how excited I was! I got my hands on the powder on boxing day for £23.50 and the lady at the benefit counter told me to apply it to my t-zone and any parts of my face which get oily. I was soooo excited to try it out... a powder ... made by benefit which combats pores and oily-ness!

The powder claims to be mattifying, pore perfecting, invisible & ultra lightweight. I can agree that this is completely true, even though you only have to use a tiny amount of this powder, it does some what work miracles! I use a tiny bit of powder on the brush included and focus it mainly on my t-zone, then I use the remaining powder for the rest of my face. I usually do around a 12 hour shift at work including travelling time and since I have been using this powder I do not have to touch up at any point during the day. Don't get me wrong.. at the moment it is freezing in London, but I do have combination skin and usually I would touch up during the day at some point if using a different powder. I will have to update this blog in the summer to let you know if I feel the same! This powder is definitely lightweight, you can't feel it on your face at all which feels really nice and you don't feel like you have loads of make up on. I wouldn't say it's invisible as you can tell something is more 'HD' looking about your face after applying this but you don't get that dry powder effect either. There is just one colour and it is suppose to be suitable for all skin types, I have fairly pale skin and this doesn't make my face look too orange/dark. I would say that the POREfessional primer does a better job at perfecting pores than this powder. I don't particularly have the biggest pores so I am probably not the best person to comment, I do have a few around my nose area but I don't feel like this powder makes them look particularly any different to normal.

This powder (like every other benefit product) has gorgeous packaging, it comes with a screw top lid and bottom. From the top it has a twist lid saying open and close, twisting to open means that the powder can be tapped out into the lid (on the left of the photo). You then twist out the bottom of the packaging and pop up the brush which can fit into the lid of the packaging and be tapped out to get just the right amount of product. I really do like this packaging, however I wouldn't say it gives you a large amount of powder (7.0 g, 0.24 oz) but then again you do only need the tiniest amount of product each time you use this!

Overall, I do think this product is one of the best mattifying powders I have ever used and although this is pretty pricey I think I will continue to use it until I find something better. Please do leave a comment below on what you think of the product if you have already tried it. If not, leave a comment asking me questions you want to know about this product. Thank you for reading!
